Program History

For over 40 years Albertus Magnus has played in one of the most competitive sections in New York State, Section1. The 2011-2012 Falcons won back-to-back sectional championships in Section 1 and were honored with selection into the Albertus Magnus Hall of Fame. Along with sectional championships, the Falcons have won the prestigious Slam Dunk Tournament held at the County Center, the Rich McNichols Christmas Tournament, the Martin Luther King Tournament, the Tappen Zee Tip -Off Tournament, the Horace Mann Tournament as well as the Joe McGuinness Tournament. Besides the challenging league and sectional schedule, the Falcons have played the best area opponents, Bergen Catholic, Don Bosco, Saint Josephs, along with CHSAA teams Iona Prep, Stepinac, All Hallows, Salesian, Xavier, Kennedy Catholic, Sacred Heart and Monsignor McClancy. The Falcons have been active supporters of the Coaches vs. Cancer benefit game, having played in New York City, in Westchester and have hosted this important showcase.

One of the pillars of the program has always been player development. In 25 seasons, Coach McFadden has had over 20 players play at all 4 levels of college basketball. In addition, the program has produced 12 Journal News Scholar Athletes of the week. Coach McFadden has helped in the development of all 5 of the school’s 1000-point scorers. College

The success of the teams over the years has everything to do with the history of great players that have played in our program. We have many boys that have continued their athletic careers in college.

Tyler Sayre, a scholarship player at St. Rose is the all-time leading scorer in the history of the Albertus Magnus HS.

Jack Sullivan, the 2013 Rockland player of the year was the valedictorian for his class.

Coaches
Varsity Head Coach Pat McFadden has been with the Falcon Basketball Program for 30 years. The last 25 as the varsity basketball coach. He has earned a spot in the exclusive 300-win club. The Falcons under his tutelage have had 7 final four appearances and 2 sectional titles. As someone who played and has coached and worked numerous camps and clinics Coach McFadden is a basketball “Lifer.” The team lessons I experienced for the 20 years I spent on the ultimate team the New York City Fire Department [FDNY] will always be a major part of our program. As rewarding as the WINS are, the successes off the court are equally rewarding. The players have always been ambassadors for the school both during their playing days and after. Whether working Buddy Ball or assisting in youth programs the Falcon players are always giving back. Many former players have gone on to be leaders in many areas including law enforcement, education, coaching, the business world, the health care industry, and others.
